Yesterday, May 17th, a few of our Boffo Family of Companies team members attended the Urban Development Institute’s Annual General Meeting.

As always, the UDI is a wealth of information for the development industry and does an amazing job of keeping us all connected and in the know. Small Home Spaces

As cities continue to grow (often up, instead of out) small home spaces are becoming a hot topic of conversation. Redefining our notion of living space comes with the territory. Freshome launched in 2007, is a blog devoted to uncover (and sharing) the latest and greatest products in Architecture and Design. Often asking questions such as ‘would you swim in this pool?’ or ‘would you live in this home?,’ Freshome helps facilitate the conversation around different and unique living spaces. Demand for Density

It seems the main topic of conversation this week in any development circle is the sold out PCI Marine Gateway Development Selling over 400 units in 4 hours is sure to make headlines in any city and this event is succeeding in calling the Vancouver Real Estate Marketing into the spotlight once again.

Made in Vancouver

“The battle for cities to become digital start-up centres is competitive, and Vancouver is competing with international talent in the US, Europe, Asia, and around the world,” said Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson at the closing of the Cities Summit earlier this month.

The Cities Summit was held February 1st and 2nd at the Vancouver Convention Centre and featured delegates from around the world, from cities such as London, Vienna, Copenhagen, and Singapore. What resulted was some of the world’s leading urban thinkers, entrepreneurs and creative minds gathered together to discuss the global challenge of city-building.  (more…)

Is Vancouverism moving to the Suburbs?

According to Peter Mitham, in a recent article in BC Business, Vancouverism can be traced back to 1986 when city planners made a conscious decision to encourage residential development in the downtown core. The result they hoped to achieve: Liveable Urban Communities.

Liveable Urban Communities, first defined by the New York Times, were “widely separated, slender towers interspersed with low-rise buildings, public spaces, small parks and pedestrian-friendly streetscapes and facades to minimize the impact of a high-density population.”

The result in downtown Vancouver is clear: grass boulevards and wide sidewalks, green spaces and, public amenities, townhouses on the ground floors and an ‘eyes on the street’ mentality. As the downtown Vancouver core continues to progress, Peter Mitham takes a look at how this model of Vancouverism is expanding into the suburbs. (more…)

The New York Design Center

Recently, a member from our Boffo Family of Companies took a quick research trip to the ‘City that Never Sleeps’ as it’s popularly known, but also known as “The City of Amazing Architecture and Design” (at least in our Boffo Family of Companies offices). New York. Amidst the brownstone row homes, the bustle of the financial district and the quiet elegance of Central Park, there is always a must visit for our team: The New York Design Center.
