This month, with summer weather officially here, we’re enjoying some extra spaces outside around our neighbourhoods with new, not-so-new, and noteworthy public art installations and murals.
And moving forward, you may be able to expect even more brightly coloured art pieces to enjoy if City Council proceeds with a new motion. This motion would mandate a portion of all construction hoarding be dedicated to murals or public art. The goal – adding ambiance, colour, vibrancy to your community while the latest homes or structures are being built. The Georgia Straight has more information on this here.
This summer you can also enjoy even more art around your neighbourhoods too. The Vancouver Mural Festival kicks off in August with over 60 new murals in 11 different neighbourhoods. You can also explore a digital component and map out your own route to murals around your City. For more information on the Vancouver Mural Festival be sure to visit their website at www.vanmuralfest.ca.
And this summer especially, after the past 15+ months of living through a global pandemic, we encourage you to take a moment, find a spot in your community and enjoy art. Wherever you can find it.
